In today’s “Getting To Know You,” we will get to learn more about Liam Callahan.

Callahan is a 24-year-old midfielder who brings versatility to Utica City FC due to his additional experience playing as a defender. The hardworking 5’9’’, 165-pound Buffalo native had a successful college career which saw him play both at Villanova and Syracuse University (old school Big East rivlary there!). After college, Callahan was selected by the Colorado Rapids in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft. In the 2017-2018, Liam contributed five goals and two assists in 22 games for the Syracuse Silver Knights.

Name: Liam Callahan

Position: Midfielder

What made you start playing soccer?

Honestly, I’m not too sure. My parents always said I had a soccer ball at my feet since I first learned how to walk. I think having an older brother who played helped push that.

Do you have a favorite team, besides Utica City FC?

I’m a Gooner for life. Arsenal was always the first team on FIFA when I was a kid and I always played with them, so I started to watch them on TV and loved their style of soccer.

Growing up, who were your favorite players?

Obviously being an Arsenal fan, Thierry Henry was my favorite player growing up.

Who has been the most difficult player to play against in your indoor career?

As much as I don’t want to copy Nate, I would have to agree with him and say Kenardo Forbes. He’s got everything you could ask for in a soccer player.

Fill in the blank: To be successful in the MASL, you must be _______.

Poised and technical.

When you’re not playing soccer, what do you do in your spare time?

When I’m not playing soccer I’m either working out or watching a movie/show. Big movie guy. Movie quotes for days.

Do you have any goals for the upcoming season?

I definitely have some goals for this season. I’ve learned a lot in the first year and I’d like to take that experience and make an impact on the field along with help the team succeed in any way I can.

As I was writing this, I remembered an interesting fact about Liam. If you’ve ever played the game FIFA 18, you’ll notice he is actually in the game! So, my final question to him was:

What’s it like to be in a video game?

It was actually really cool to see. Something I really would never think to happen. Unfortunately I couldn’t stick on it, but I’d like to make my way back in there some day.

If Liam continues to flourish in the MASL, there’s no doubt in my mind he will be back in a FIFA game soon! Thanks again to Liam for taking the time to answer my questions. Until next week MASL Nation!
