Ontario Fury midfielder Joseph Cairel was found dead on Sunday when his body was recovered from the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta according to reports from The Mercury News.

The team announced his passing Monday afternoon.

Cairel, who had just turned 29 on Friday, played five years in the MASL, his first four with the Tacoma Stars and this past season with the Fury. The fan favorite was easily identified by his long, flowing hair.

Nicknamed “The Jet”, Cairel was born in Livermore, California. He totaled 82 regular season games and three playoff games in his five year indoor career, scoring 34 total goals and assisting on 20 others.
