It’s been a fun ride. When I started Turf and Boards on a whim in April 2017, I never imagined it would be received as well as it was or last as long as it has, but it’s time to step away.
There are lots of reasons, and I thought about doing a Festivus airing of grievances, but I want to go out on a high note.
I want to thank the teams who were supportive of what we were trying to do, especially the Harrisburg Heat, St. Louis Ambush, San Diego Sockers, and Kansas City Comets.
I want to thank my fellow writers who made contributions to Turf and Boards: Greg Suttie, Matt Huber, Matt Williams, Quinn Width, Nick Episcopo, Doug Montroy, and Nathan Dunn.
I want to thank the countless players and coaches who patiently answered my questions. I think I’m a pretty good writer, but even after all these years it’s hard for me to do public speaking or to interview someone in person, and it has never gotten easier.
This COVID-riddled time seems like a good opportunity to step away. I will still try to support this great game of indoor soccer in other ways, including through my work with the Indoor Soccer Hall of Fame. It’s not good-bye, but see you later.
You are a great asset to the game
